The educational program in Medical Oncology must be 24 months in length.

The total duration of training for an exit certification in Singapore is 36 months in length.

The first 24 months would be core training. An additional 12 months of oncology training is required per local requirements, of which up to 12 months could be spent on elective posting, which may include but not limited to the following postings:

• Medical Oncology, which includes basic and clinical research
• Radiation Oncology
• Haematology, Apheresis and Blood Banking
• Palliative Medicine
• Pathology/Surgical Oncology
• Nuclear Medicine (max 3 months)

The total duration of training for an exit certification in Singapore is 36 months in length.

A minimum of 12 months must be devoted to clinical experience.

For the local 36-month program, minimum of 24 months must be devoted to clinical experience.

Performance of touch preparations.

Residents need to know how to perform the procedure but need not perform touch preparations routinely

This is performed by the lab technicians and it may be more appropriate for the haematology program rather than the oncology program.

V B. 3.

Pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, including:
a) basic molecular and pathophysiologic mechanisms, diagnosis, and therapy of diseases of the blood, to include anaemia’s, diseases of white blood cells and stem cells, and disorders of haemostasis and thrombosis; and,
b) etiology, epidemiology, natural history, diagnosis, pathology, staging, and management of neoplastic diseases of the blood, blood-forming organs, and lymphatic tissues.

Pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, including:
a) basic molecular and pathophysiologic mechanisms, diagnosis, and therapy of lymphoid neoplasm, and,
b) etiology, epidemiology, natural history, diagnosis, pathology, staging, and management of lymphoid neoplasm.

Unlike a combined haematology-oncology training program, our proposed training program is an oncology-only sub-specialty training program. The stated requirements are therefore more relevant to a haematology training program. Hence we suggest restricting the training requirement to lymphoid neoplasms as these diseases are managed by medical oncologists as well in this country.
