Senior residency training in Cardiology

Cardiology is a 3.5-year Internal Medicine (IM)-related Senior Residency training programme following the completion of the 3-year IM Residency Training Programme. For details on eligibility criteria and compulsory courses, please refer to the section on Internal Medicine-related specialties.

The duration of residency training accredited by ACGME-I and that required for exit certification by the Specialists Accreditation Board is listed in the following table. Where the duration for accreditation exceeds that of ACGME-I, the remaining time will be accredited by the Joint Committee on Specialist Training (JCST).

Singapore Country Addendum to the ACGME-I Advanced Specialty Requirements

The Singapore Country Addendum to the ACGME-I Advanced Specialty Requirements prescribes specialty-specific programme requirements applicable to residency programmes in Singapore as discussed with the ACGME-I and the Singapore Residency Advisory Committees (RAC).

Read together with the ACGME-I Advanced Specialty Requirements, they represent the requirements of graduate medical education in the specialties listed.

Singapore Country Addendum to the ACGME-I Advanced Specialty Requirements

IV.A.1b.4	Experience in Cardiac Tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI), and peripheral vascular imaging. These rotations may be done concurrently with other rotations.	Exposure to these procedures would suffice, for example residents observing the use of these procedures. Residents are not required to perform these procedures or do a clinical rotation to services where these procedures are performed	The reasons are that (i) the usage of PET is in low volume and is not widely used in Singapore; and (ii) peripheral vascular imaging is likely to be performed by vascular surgeons instead.
11.B.1f	Electrophysiology laboratories < ACGME-I agreed to presence off-site >	RAC Cardiology would like to request that for provisions be made to allow for sponsoring institutions without electrophysiology laboratories (NHG) to send trainees to another site for electrophysiology by prior arrangement	NHG’s residents plan to use the electrophysiology labs, if necessary, at other sites (NUHS). NHG will arrange to have a programme letter of agreement with NUHS (or SHS or both)
11.B.1h	Cardiothoracic surgery < ACGME-I STATES: MAY BE NON-ISSUE SINCE IT IS REGUALR INTERACTION WITH CARDIAC SURGEONS, SUCH AS CATH CONFERENCE OR INPATIENT CARE PLANNING >	RAC Cardiology would like to request that provisions be made to allow for sponsoring institutions without Cardiothoracic surgery (NHG) to send trainees to another site for exposure to this by prior arrangement, and also to consider visiting cardiothoracic surgery consultation services as meeting this need	NHG’s residents plan to use the cardiothoracic surgery and cardiothoracic surgery consultation services, if necessary, at or from other sites (NUHS or SHS or both). NHG will arrange to have a programme letter of agreement with NUHS (or SHS or both)

NHG’s residents plan to use the cardiothoracic surgery and cardiothoracic surgery consultation services, if necessary, at or from other sites (NUHS or SHS or both).

NHG will arrange to have a programme letter of agreement with NUHS (or SHS or both)
